A series of new European regulations on sustainability in the financial services sector are at the starting blocks. On March 10, the SFDR “Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation” has come into force, the new regulatory framework on transparency in the sustainability field which regulates the disclosure obligations for portfolio managers on providing asset management and investment consultancy activities, in relation to the integration of ESG risks and assessments in the investment selection process, as well as sustainable products (so-called light green and dark green). These disclosure obligations concern, also, the policy on the integration of ESG risks into the investment process, the remuneration policies and the assessment of the negative effects of investment decisions on sustainability factors. Specific disclosure obligations are also provided in relation to “sustainable products”, both in the pre-contractual phase and in the context of periodic reporting, also in order to stem phenomena of so-called greenwashing. The published technical regulatory standards (RTS) contain detailed provisions on the disclosure methods.
